Best Intentions
The future of conferencing is collaboration, and collaboration is designed to sanction achievement versus simply improve productivity. Not convinced? Check it out…
Against the backdrop of business, productivity conveys an ability to create or generate “stuff” more readily or abundantly. Achievement, however, demands that “stuff” is brought to successful closure against an intended result. See, the key here is intended, and intended results are likely much more substantial.
An opportune time for sagacious wisdoms from the martial arts…. a colleague recently told me that when sparring with an opponent, you’re not really trying to hurt them, unlike in a match. Nevertheless, if you don’t punch with intent, you will receive punches unintentionally. His bandaged nose is proof positive of that. You’ve got to believe that ducking with intent is also advantageous.
Enhancing productivity gets things done, but real achievements occur when the right things get done intentionally, in the context of goals. Companies struggling with strategy execution are likely overemphasizing productivity enhancements at the expense of achieving goals. However, they can adjust their behaviors.
In today’s global economy, rapid technology changes present opportunities for a wellspring of nimble and innovative new competitors. Responding to competition requires a new collective intellect, call it a more social network. Without one, you’re missing both the vision and scrutiny which assures you’re not distracted from goals.
Organizations which truly value their human capital and offer up an unobstructed collaboration environment are the new breed of competitors. They possess vision and judgment. We’re all aware of some of these legendary environments, and we all want to work in or with one. They’re exciting, vibrant, and the collaborative confederacy results in some impressive innovations.
By tapping broader perspectives across markets, functions, customers, partners, cultures and value chains, solutions are outright better. Better, unless it’s a confederacy of dunces, in which case I’d argue they'd still exceed expectations, and that’s nearly impossible these days.
With all stakeholders represented, solutions are more comprehensive and satisfying. Couple that with a very cool company name which means absolutely nothing, or a maybe a fruit, and you could be the next corporate phenom.
The tools to collaborate are plentiful and they’re contagious. Use them to achieve, and compete with intent.
